RESTORATION LEVY

why now

Wylam Brewery, nestled in the historic Palace of Arts in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park, is regarded as a cornerstone of the city’s vibrant culture. Known for its intimate yet grand setting, the brewery hosts an eclectic range of artists, from rising local talent to internationally renowned acts. The venue has become a beacon for music lovers, with its Grand Hall providing an unparalleled experience for both performers and audiences alike. Recently, the brewery announced the introduction of a Restoration Levy on ticketed events, a move that reflects its commitment to preserving the heritage of its iconic home.

A Historic Gem

The Palace of Arts, built in 1929 for the North East Coast Exhibition, is the last remaining structure from the event. Its significance as a piece of regional history makes it more than just a building; it’s a living monument to the artistic and cultural achievements of the time. When Wylam Brewery transformed the space into their home in 2016, they did so with great respect for its history, carefully restoring the building while adapting it for modern use.

However, the wear and tear from thousands of visitors each year, combined with the inherent challenges of maintaining a nearly century-old building, have made restoration and upkeep a priority.

the levy

The restoration levy is a small fee added to the cost of tickets for events held at Wylam Brewery. Restoration levies are now common in heritage venues and are often crucial for preserving spaces of historical and cultural importance. The addition of £2.00 to every ticket will have a significant impact. For every attendee at one of Wylam’s ticketed events, this small fee goes directly into a dedicated restoration fund.

Over time, this fund will enable the brewery to tackle key restoration and enhancement projects without relying on external funding or compromising the quality of events. A detailed yearly update will be provided to ensure transparency, outlining how the additional fee has contributed to improvements and maintenance of the building and the facilities on offer.

Supporting Local Heritage

With the introduction of this levy, everyone attending gigs will become active participants in preserving a slice of Newcastle’s heritage. Attendees of concerts will not only enjoy unforgettable nights but also contribute to the longevity of a building that holds a special place in the city’s heart.

In an era where many historic venues face threats from neglect or redevelopment, this forward-thinking forward-thinking approach from Wylam Brewery and the loyal customer base, means together we can balance cultural engagement with responsible stewardship. The funds raised will ensure that the Palace of Arts remains a vibrant, accessible space for future generations to enjoy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks in advance. Your support has a meaningful impact on preserving this beloved venue.
